Recently we were at Olive Garden and my daughter finished most of her food and then said \u201cWhew, I was hungry!\u201d<\/p>\n

I asked\u2026 what did you pack for lunch today. \u00a0 She says \u201cA yogurt and a pixy stick!\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0 I quickly look at my husband and he says\u2026. \u201cDid any adults see that you only had a yogurt and a pixy stick?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, my friends mom asked if I wanted some of her salad\u201d<\/p>\n

Oh crap\u2026 Is all I could think. \u00a0 Really? \u00a0 A yogurt and pixy stick!<\/p>\n

All I could do was laugh\u2026. \u00a0 So here we are at Olive Garden and my daughter just devoured her food and I\u2019m thinking\u2026.really\u2026. a pixy stick and a yogurt!<\/p>\n

I feel a little guilty, but then I take a look at the big picture. \u00a0 Sometimes our children may starve a little when we are being creative. \u00a0 (or paying bills in this case and forgot to check her lunch) \u00a0 But, I think it teaches them responsibility and teaches us a little humility<\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not a perfect mom. \u00a0 Just last month I forgot her lunch altogether. \u00a0 She\u2019s now gluten free so the normal stuff at the office wouldn\u2019t do. \u00a0 So I showed up an hour after her lunch with an apology and a smile hoping she would be okay\u2026. not scarred eternally from a memory of starving as she sat and watched her friends eat.<\/p>\n

All these moments make us human. <\/b>\u00a0 I am realizing that it\u2019s okay. \u00a0 It\u2019s okay to not be perfect all the time\u2026 your child will not starve\u2026\u00a0 they will recover. \u00a0 AND you will learn that perfection is not always the answer. \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

I will hold myself to a standard of GRACE, not perfection.<\/b><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So, this leads me to CREATIVITY!!!\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b> Sometimes you get it wrong and sometimes you just get it right!<\/p>\n

The Valentines Day party was assigned to me and one of my friends (who also has a child in 5th grade and who is also an artist). \u00a0 We were talking and after brainstorming we decided to create a Master Chef Jr. experience for the kids.<\/p>\n

Yes, you heard me\u2026 5th graders with little aprons, chef hats (so cute) and most importantly SAFE KNIVES! <\/b>\u00a0 That was my biggest concern.<\/p>\n

After much planning and preparation and TONS of threats during art class that we will all be SAFE during this activity we are ready! \u00a0<\/b> The kids showed up and quickly found their teammate and off they go! \u00a0 They searched the school using a treasure map for their ingredients. \u00a0 Since ovens were not really a part of the art room we had to improvise. \u00a0 Using blenders and other resources the kids got to work!<\/p>\n

I was amazed! \u00a0 NOT ONE fight! \u00a0 NOT ONE argument (that I could see or hear anyway) \u00a0 With the help of many parents, it was incredible\u2026 AND they took it so seriously! \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Spending 45 minutes they created and plated their master pieces to show the judges\u2026 I was so proud!\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

It was a artistic, creative, culinary success!\u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Here are some pictures of their creations.\u00a0 I also wanted to tell you that it\u2019s totally okay if sometimes your child eats a pixy stick for lunch because sometimes they will have a FEAST! \u00a0 It all seems to balance out in the end anyway! \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
