Space Camp Drop Off <\/span><\/p>\n

It all started when Pixie found her daddy\u2019s Space Camp suit from when he went to Space camp almost 30 years ago!  <\/span>Wearing it to a Nerds VS. Jocks day at school\u2026 and then not taking it off for several weeks.   <\/span><\/p>\n

So on Feb 14th, Pixie received a present from her Grandma & Grandpa that revealed she would be going to SPACE CAMP in Hunstville, AL!!!!   <\/span><\/p>\n

After months of daily countdowns, coordinating Mars missions in her room, ordering star gazing books from Amazon, making lists of everything she needed for the adventure of a lifetime, the day finally came.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Space Camp Drop Off. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since the camp is 5 states away\u2026. we took a road trip the day before.   <\/span>Driving 9.5 hours day one to ensure that we were just a few hours away the day of check in. <\/span><\/p>\n

We listened to music and talked about whatever was on her mind.   <\/span>Stopped for lots of snacks, coffee, food and lottery tickets.   <\/span>Every time I lose on scratch offs I remind Pixie that gambling never gets you anywhere.   <\/span>Then when we win we talk about double-or-nothing strategies.   <\/span>(You know\u2026 life lessons)  <\/span><\/p>\n

Most of my long road trips consist of business podcasts, audio books and uplifting sermons\u2026 but this trip was all about her.   <\/span>Pixie put together a play list for us and we listened to it for hours.   <\/span>I was happy to see a lot of my favorite country songs including Jamey Johnson and Chris Stapleton where chosen.   <\/span>They were in a mix with Zendaya and Sabrina Carpenter as well.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Needless to say\u2026 lots of singing took place.   <\/span><\/p>\n

Pixie took videos on her phone of the road trip and talked to the camera like a pro.   <\/span><\/p>\n

The closer we got to Space Camp the more nervous she became.    <\/span>Pixie who LOVES to eat\u2026 didn\u2019t want any food.   <\/span>The last hour of the drive she just laid on my arm and was silent.   <\/span><\/p>\n

I told her \u201cPixie, if you are scared what can you do?\u201d  <\/span>She said, \u201cI can tell someone or text you.\u201d    <\/span>I replied \u201cYes, those are great, but remember you can always talk to God ANYTIME!\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Hoping this would calm her nerves and gently remind her that God is always with her no matter where she is or what she is doing. <\/span><\/p>\n

As we pull up she is screaming and excited!   <\/span>Large rockets are overwhelming taking over the sky.  <\/span>The air is filled with enthusiasm!   <\/span>The kids excited and parents jealous that they don\u2019t get to stay and be a part of this awesome week.    <\/span><\/p>\n

Her biggest fear was not meeting a friend.  <\/span>Well, immediately we run into a sweet girl named Emmie and within minutes they realize that both are new to space camp and sleep over camp. <\/span><\/p>\n

(apparently that is a term I was unaware of – Sleep away camp!  <\/span>Parents would ask\u2026 \u201cHas she done a sleep away camp?\u201d   <\/span>I found the phrase odd)  <\/span><\/p>\n

Then it hit me\u2026. sleep away camp\u2026. maybe this is a big deal?   <\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m one of those parents that didn\u2019t cry when she went to middle school\u2026 Didn\u2019t cry when I put her in daycare or Pre-K\u2026.  <\/span>Then I see a mom crying and I think\u2026 \u201cAm I supposed to be crying??   <\/span>Am I a bad parent????   <\/span>Is this one of those emotional moments that I\u2019m supposed to have????\u201d  <\/span><\/p>\n

Well\u2026 let\u2019s just say\u2026 I cried this go around. <\/span><\/p>\n

When it was time to say goodbye it was so quick!  <\/span>She went left and I went right.   <\/span>Quick hug goodbye\u2026 I love you and then she\u2019s gone.   <\/span>I try to hold back the tears as I also try to take a picture of this sweet girl who I feel like has left a little girl and will return a young woman. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

She\u2019s very independent and much more outspoken than I ever was.   <\/span>However, she\u2019s always had me constantly reminding her \u201cbrush your teeth\u2026 brush your hair\u2026 etc. etc.   <\/span>This will be the first time she has to REALLY learn time management\u2026 work as a team\u2026. RUN A MARS and \/ or MISSION to the moon!!! <\/span><\/p>\n

Not your average daily to do list. <\/span><\/p>\n

So, yes\u2026 I teared up a little.  <\/span>And even cried a little on the way home.   <\/span>Not for sake of missing her, but for the overwhelming feeling of opportunity her grandma and grandpa gave her!   <\/span><\/p>\n

This wonderful gift that can possible shape her as a little human more than we will know.  <\/span><\/p>\n

So now we wait\u2026 Only a small text from her night one saying Goodnight, I love you.   <\/span>Not a word since. <\/span><\/p>\n

I take this as no news is good news and pray that this experience is everything she hoped and dreamed of.  <\/span><\/p>\n

As Bobby and I anxiously watch our phones for a text or an email from her\u2026 we know that she is in good hands.  <\/span><\/p>\n

We pick her up on Friday at graduation and I\u2019m pretty sure I\u2019ll be crying like a baby!   <\/span>I\u2019ll try to not embarrass her in front of all her new friends and be all ears ready to hear 1000 stories of what happened.   <\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m so proud of her for doing something that is scary.    <\/span>She\u2019s 5 states away staying with strangers.    <\/span>She was so nervous she wouldn\u2019t eat, but so excited she jumps in not really sure what she is getting into.  <\/span><\/p>\n

What have you done lately that has taken you out of your comfort zone?    <\/span><\/p>\n

On the drive back\u2026 I listened to my business podcasts, audio books, etc.   <\/span>One of the ladies in my Paint Party Headquarters recommended Mel Robbins and her 5 second Rule.    <\/span>It was so timely because she talks about NASA!   <\/span><\/p>\n

I thought that was fitting!   <\/span>You can find her on Youtube!   <\/span>Anyway, the cliff notes are basically this\u2026. <\/span> motivation is crap. <\/b>  <\/span>It will never come.   <\/span>When you have that desire to do something\u2026 do it NOW.   <\/span>Basically your brain will bring you back to comfort zone in 5 seconds.   <\/span><\/p>\n

You have 5 seconds to act\u2026. trick your brain\u2026 get out of your comfort zone\u2026 in order to make a change and have the life you want.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Pixie, although scared, made a decision to try something new\u2026 OUT of her comfort zone.   <\/span>Yes, fun too\u2026 but new.   <\/span>How many things do you pass by that are fun?   <\/span>Out of your comfort zone?   <\/span><\/p>\n

We are all a decision away from ANYTHING WE WANT!   <\/span><\/p>\n
