Today I have a really cool piece that I\u2019m going to be painting using stencils. It\u2019s a magnolia bowl! No, not the LSU \u2013 Ole Miss Football rivalry but a wood magnolia bowl.  Now, this was first time painting on a magnolia bowl so I wasn\u2019t really sure if would go well or not. What is a magnolia bowl?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It is a wood serving bowl or decorative bowl made from the wood of Southern Magnolias. The one I painted on was more decorative, long, slender and shallow. You can get these in a ton of different shapes and sizes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Painting a Magnolia Bowl with Stencils<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I really wanted the word \u2018marshmallows\u2019 on the side of the bowl. So, I just used some white paint and liner brush to paint inside the stencil. I did go back and clean it up a little bit with my liner brush. You could also use a stencil brush, just remember to offload!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I grabbed some of my favorite fall colors, red, orange and yellow. I love DecoArt Americana<\/a> craft acrylic paint. Using a stencil brush, I created kind of an ombre effect for the leaves.  I didn\u2019t even clean my brush between colors! Remember once you paint this type of item it is no longer food safe. You can also seal it with a polyurethane spray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s it! This was a fun and simple painting project on an unexpected item. There are so many things you can paint, ceramics, porch signs, door hangers and magnolia bowls! It doesn\u2019t just have to be a canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
